This pro- gressive increase in fission rate was due entirely to the dying of the many abnormal lines which were produced by conjugation. Xinety- three non-viable lines were produced. Only 10 of 210, or per cent, of the ex-conjugant lines resembled the parent race in fission rate. J_L.
