Light micrograph of a section through a human testicle showing several seminiferous tubules, the sites of production & maturation of sperm. The testis is packed with numerous convoluted seminiferous tubules, each of which is lined by a stratified epithelium. This consists of two types of cell; spermatogenic cells responsible for the production of sperm and Sertoli cells responsible for nourishing the developing sperm. The sperm are released into the cavity (white) at the centre of each tubule and migrate up into the epididymis, where they mature & are stored until passing into the vas deferens during ejaculation.
