The Stock Gilly-flower is one of the most popular plants, either for bedding, massing, or pot-culture; for brilliancy and diversity of color or profusion and duration of bloom it is unsurpassed. The Ten Week Stocks {Mathiola annua) are generally cultivated, and bloom from ten to twelve weeks after being sown ; they grow from 6 to 18 inches high, and when grown in light, rich soil, and occasionally watered with weak guano water, they bear an immense quantify of bloom, so that each plant forms a perfect bouquet of delightful fragrance.
