Never wasthere a more complete defeat, for in little over anhour the French army was utterly routed witha loss of more than three thousand. This famousengagement, which decided the campaign, wasfought on 28th April 1503. The feats of arms in which the Good Knightso greatly distinguished himself and spread hischivalrous fame throughout Europe, took placeduring the kind of guerrilla fighting in Apulia andbefore the battle of Cerignola.
