Piercefield House and Park Landscaped grounds above Wye Valley Chepstow Monmouthshire South East Wales UK

Piercefield House and Park Landscaped grounds above Wye Valley next to Chepstow Racecourse Chepstow Monmouthshire South East Wales UK The ruined neoclassical house pictured was largely the work of Sir John Soane. In the 1750s it was owned by Valentine Morris who commissioned the landscaping of the surrounding parkland. This was at the dawn of the idea of tourism in one of the first areas where it developed - the Wye Valley, which is also in frame - and is significant as it is one of the very first examples of Picturesque landscaping. This image shows the extent of the estate.
