Hand painted stones with the Star of David painted on them left by visitors at the base of the Warsaw Ghetto Heroes Monument located in the area that was formerly a part of the Warsaw Ghetto at the spot where the first armed clash of the uprising took place. The original monument was designed by Leon Suzin and later a large monument was sculpted by Nathan Rapoport under the supervision of Suzin and was unveiled in 1948. It faces the Museum of the History of the Polish Jews. Derek Hudson / Alamy Stock Photo
