Here is Benjamin AVest as portrayed by Sir ThomasLawi-ence, who was his successor in the office of thePresident of The Royal Academy. West is shown aslecturing on the properties of color. That accountsfor the rainbow introduced into the upper portion ofthe picture. And on the curtain is depicted TheDeath of Ananias, one of Wests most celebratedpictures. Here is Benjamin Wests portrait of himself. Thecountenance, I think, is more pleasing than thatdepicted by Sir Thomas.
