CUMBRIA CONSTABULARY website Police launch murder investigation in Windermere Date Published: 01/07/2015 15:52 Police are appealing for witnesses following a death in Windermere today (Wednesday July 1st). The death is currently being treated as suspicious, and a murder investigation has now been launched. Police were called at this morning to reports of concern for the welfare of a male in Brookside, Lake Road, Windermere. The man was pronounced dead at the scene. We are currently working on identifying the body and tracing the next of kin. Four people – two local males aged 26 and 31, and two females, aged 48 and 15, who were visiting the Lake District - have been arrested on suspicion of murder and are currently being questioned by Police. Superintendent Rob O’Connor said: “This death is still unexplained but detectives and officers are working hard to establish exactly what has happened. “We urge the public to get in touch with any information that may assist the investigation. We would particularly like to speak to anyone who was in the area at the time or who heard an altercation.” The area around the scene around Brookside, Lake Road is closed while enquiries are ongoing. Anyone with any information is asked to call Cumbria Police on 101 and ask for South CID, or call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111. Mark Russell appeared at Furness and District Magistrates' Court, in Barrow, yesterday (Monday July 6) charged with the murder of Gordon James Smith in Windermere. Russell, 26, of Holly Terrace, Windermere, appeared in a two minute hearing. He spoke to confirmed his name, date of birth and address. The case was adjourned and Russell was remanded in custody until a bail hearing which is set to take place at Carlisle Crown Court on Wednesday. A preliminary hearing is then due to take place at Carlisle Crown Court on July 27.
