OUTING OF THE TYER RUBBER annual picnic of the employes of the Tyer Rubber Co.(Andover, Massachusetts) was held at Revere Beach, on Sat-urday, August 1, about 400 being present. Special electric carswere taken from the factory at Andover direct to the beach,and after an interesting two hours trolley ride, the day wasspent enjoying the sights which make this resort so attractive,A basket lunch was served at noon and late in the afternoon RUBBER FACTORY. 434 THE INDIA RUBBER WORLD [September i, the cars were again taken to Andover, where all arrived safely,making the day a most pleasant one to remember. Superin-tendent McTernen had charge of the arrangements, and wasassisted in carrying out the plans by a very generous contribu-tion from the company. CHARLES E. E. FARRlNGTON,_of the Massachusetts ChemicalCo. (Boston), is a chemist and engineer of natural ability andscientific training. He was born in Dover, Massachusetts, 34years ago, on the farm, but through the removal of his par-ents was educated inBoston schools. He de-veloped a mechanicaltendency in boyhoodand after the close of hisschool opportunities de-voted his leisure entirelyto the study of mechan-ical and hydraulic engi-neering and to appliedchemistry. He becameconnected with theMassachusetts ChemicalCo. in 1892, and since hasbeen an important fac-tor in the growth of thatbusiness.
