VILLAMOR AIR BASE, Republic of the Philippines— Members of the Armed Forces of the Philippines, service members and medical personnel from Makati Medical Center, lift an injured victim of Super Typhoon Haiyan/Yolanda into an ambulance Nov. 18, at Villamor Air Base. Up to this point the injured citizens in need of medical assistance have been transported by ambulance to the Makati Medical Center. The role of the military forces during any foreign humanitarian assistance event is to rapidly respond with support to help mitigate human suffering and prevent further loss of life and mitigate greater property damage. The Navy-Marine Corps team has a particularly successful history of working with international relief organizations and host nations to respond to those people affected by natural disasters.
