Ex-GovRRNOR Frederick Smyth, chief officer and managerof the Merrimack River Savings Bank, and of the FirstNational Bank of Manchester, was born in Candia, March9, 1819. His earlier years, in the intervals of time notdevoted to common school and academic education, wereoccupied in farm labor. In 1838 he began in Manchester as a clerk, and sooncommenced business for himself.
