A self-sterile varietyis one which is U7iable to set fruit when alone: in order to be pro-ductive, it must be planted near some other variety. Two varietiesvery commonly self-sterile are Miner and Wild Goose blocks of the Kieffer pear and some of the great pruneorchards on our Pacific coast have been unprofitable from thiscause.
