SANTA RITA, Guam (July 20, 2021) - Consul-General of Japan Kobayashi Toshiaki, right, pays his respects during the Sumay Memorial ceremony on Naval Base Guam (NBG) July 20. The cere- mony recollected the pre-war village of Sumay, a thriving hub of commerce before it was bombed in World War II. The village was utilized as a Japanese garrison before the liberation of the island by armed forces at the end of World War II in 1944.
