Oil palm kernels being brought ashore for processing at Tawau Sabah Malaysia

The production of palm oil is one of Malaysian Borneo's economic mainstays, oil palm plantations covering large areas, particularly in Sabah, the northernmost state. These plantations are among the biggest culprits in the destruction of Borneo's tropical rainforests. This image shows a boat load of oil palm kernels being brought ashore at Tawau, a port on Sabah's east coast, after shipment from a remote plantation, for processing at the town's refinery.
