The Grand Wash in the Capitol Reef. These Navajo sandstone bluffs were named the "Capitol Reef" by California-bound settlers because they fancied themselves as sailors crossing a "reef" that reminded them of state Capitol buildings. This gulch was the route the wagon trains took through the "reef."
