Different varieties of thisdistortion have been described as masculine, heart-shaped, andfigure of eight deformities of the brim ; all of which are, as will be Fig. Malacosteou pelvis. observed, mere modifications of the same condition, and all of whichpartake of the character of elliptical distortion. In malacosteon again, the general characteristic of the deformity is annular, and is due toantero-lateral displacement of the pelvic walls by pressure exercisedupon the acetabula. This is indicated in a typical form by the rostratedvariety shown in Fig. 139, where the conjugate diameter is increasedat the expense of the transverse and oblique. Endless varieties and combinations of these two may occur, so thatthe distinction between a rickety and a malacosteon pelvis is only to be F13. 149.
