Painted Shroud Fragment, Ptolemaic or Roman Period, 1st century BC–1st century AD, From Egypt, Linen, gesso, paint, H. 38 cm (14 15/16 in); W. cm (11 7/8 in); Framed: H. 44 cm (17 5/16 in.); W. 36 cm (14 3/16 in.); D. cm (1 3/4 in.), As wife and sister of Osiris, Isis and Nephthys were twinned in funerary beliefs. These heads of the two goddesses come from a single linen shroud, which probably showed them raising their arms in a gesture of care and reverence on either side of the frontal, mummified image of Osiris
