The firm was or-ganized in White River Junction in1885, dealing in meats and 1SS6 the firm extended its businessby the opening of a store in WestLebanon and both marts have beencontinued uninterruptedly to thisday. The original partnership consistedof George S. Edson and Sherman Mr. Chadwiek died in the90s, since when Mr. Edson has con-tinued the business alone, retaining,however, the firm name, doing in both stores a general grocery, meat andprovision trade. Mr. Edson was born in Bethel. Vt.,February 22, 1652. After attend-ance at the Bethel schools, he enteredRoyalton (Vt.) Academy, and upongraduation engaged in farm he secured a contract forsawing wood for the Central VermontRailroad locomotives. This work tookhim all along the line from Wind-sor to the Canadian border. Aftereight years, this work was discontin-ued, the railroad company havingsubstituted coal for wood. There-upon Mr. Edson engaged in a mer-cantile career.
