In this test, egg masses obtain- ed in the field and in insectary cages were kept in the labora- tory until they were about to hatch. They were then placed in petri dishes with a hardware cloth top from which the newly hatched larvae could escape when they hatched. The egg masses were later examined to determine precisely how many individual eggs had hatched. The survival of the larvae on the commercial bogs, as shown on Table 5, was very poor.
