The Waring System of Irrigation.—Irrigation on a small scale, knownin this country as the Waring system, is resorted to ver^- commonlyfor the treatment of se^vage of single houses and small begun by the Rev. The plant consisted of an open-jointed tiledrain laid a little below the surface of the ground, parallel with andclose to a row of grapevines. It was next enlarged by Mr. R. Fieldby the addition of a reservoir or flushing tank, shown in Fig. 94, bymeans of which the whole drain could be flooded throughout and inter-mittently. Brought to the notice of Colonel AVaring, he adopted thesystem for his own house, and proceeded to improve it in several direc-tions and to bring it into common use.
