Three famous classical buildings in the heart of Oxford- the Sheldonian Theatre, Bodleian Library and Clarendon Building - can all be seen here. The distinctive round Sheldonian Theatre, in the centre, was built from 1664 to 1669 based on an early design by Christopher Wren. It is used for music concerts, lectures and University ceremonies. Its neighbour, the Clarendon building - on the right - is used primarily for university administration. Lastly, the Bodleian Library, to the left, is the main research library of the University of Oxford. Dating back - in part - to the 14th Century, it is one of the oldest centres of scholarship and leaning in Europe. With over 12 million items, it is the second biggest library in Britain after the British Library.
