Unidentified Rabbit fish asleep among coral in the Red Sea. Like the surgeonfish which is a relative, rabbit fish are able to change colour. Here asleep at night this specimen has a grey-mottled night time colouration which camouflages it. This fish would be a completely different colour during day time. Rabbit fish are so-called because their mouth looks like that of a rabbit. This similarity is emphasized by the fact that these fish \munch\" almost continuously, like rabbits. They feed on growths on rocks and dead coral branches, which they chew off with their sharp teeth. Some rabbit fishes are poisonous. Their sharp fin rays are equipped with poison glands."
