These parts and their subdivisions, shown indetail in Volume II, are determined quite as muchby the condition of the data as by the choice ofthe investigator. The statistics of agriculturalproduction come mainly from the Bureau of the SIZE OF THE NATIONAL INCO:\IE 17 Census and the Department of concerning mineral production are drawnmainly from the Geological Survey. Factory pro-duction is estimated on the basis of the quinquen-nial censuses of manufactures. All these sourcesare fairly satisfactory, though many ingeniousshifts must be resorted to in bridging the gapsbetween years for which substantially complet
