The diabase is altered and oxitli/ed to about the 400 leveland the ditVerence in appearance between this oxidized zone and thefresh rock below there led to the erroneous belief that the two weredifferent rocks. The walls of the vein are hard, with little white quaitz contains a little arsenopyrite, pyrite and copperminerals as well as free gold. The inclined shaft is 600 feet deep, with levels called the 300, 400 and500. Crosscuts run east to the vein with drifting 400 feet north on the300 level. 120 feet north on 400 level, and IGO feet north and 40 feet. Treasure Mine and Mill. south on 500 level. The; width of vein varies fiom three feet to a fewinches, and the; value is spotted. Some specimens show considerablefree gold, but 1200 tons crushed were of medium to low grade. The sm-face plant includes a mill of five stamps with a daily cai)acityof 20 tons, a Frue vanner, 2-(lrill air compi-essoi-, ;} electric motor,and hoist run by motor. Treasure (Hazard) Mine was first worked previous to 1867, at whichtime it had an 8-stamp mill. It had ])i-o(lu(ed 5000 tons of ore, someof it worth $15 a ton, up to that time. It was reopened in 1907 byTreasure Mining Company, and ojxrated until Sej)tember, li)22. The Treasure Mine adjoins the liunker Hill Mine on the north. Itwas worked to an inclined depth of 30;i0 feet, the first 1600 feet ofwhich is a shaft on an incline of 58*^ to 60° and the balance a
