The old Covent Garden Market London 1973

Covent Garden was the most important fruit & vegetable Market in the UK until 1973, when it was forced to move to larger premises due to increasing traffic congestion. It is now a famous tourist attraction and the former Market halls have been saved. These captures were made at around 8 o'clock on a cold winter's morning just a week before the market closed and was relocated to 9 Elms, a few miles further south, and away from the congestion of central London. High speed Ektachrome film was used, uprated to 800ASA, hence the rather coarse grain. Have since been informed that the Man pulling the Barrow is GEORGE FRANCIS. He left the ‘Garden’ to begin a career in Professional Boxing as a Trainer – He became a Trainer of Champions – John Conteh – Frank Bruno and many others.
