Luna Moth (Actias luna) Early 5th instar larva on Black Walnut (Juglans nigra) The Luna Moth is a common member of the Saturniidae family that is found throught eastern North Amercia. Favored foodplants are Sweetgums, all Hickory and Walnuts, Black Gum, Birch, Persimmon and others. Luna has at least 2 broods in most areas EXCEPT for the more northerly part of its range where it is single brooded. Pennsylvania, summer.
