Hop cones put out to dry (France). Humulus lupulus is the botanical name of the bine (Cannabaceae), more well known as the common hop. A perennial climbing plant, its female inflorescences: the cones, are gathered and used as a natural preservative to beer; as an extra they add it a bitter taste.
