An Ottoman karabela, circa 1700. Heavy, slightly curved single-edged blade of beautifully figured wootz Damascus. The middle of the blade is damaged showing notches and pressure marks. The base of the blade shows partly worn decorative, gold-inlaid cartouches, Silver quillons with cut and engraved decoration. Horn grip scales and a silver grip strap.
