Interior of St John's Co-Cathedral, Valletta, Malta

Interior of St John's Co-Cathedral, Valletta, Malta. St John's Co-Cathedral was built between 1573 and 1578 by the Maltese architect Gerolamo Cassar. Originally the church of the Knights of St John, the co-cathedral came to rival the archbishop's cathedral at Mdina in importance. The ceiling and side altars are decorated with scenes from the life of St John, painted by the Calabrian artist Mattia Preti, and the building houses a small collection of paintings by Caravaggio.
