Head, neck, tail, and the under surface pure white (with an evanescent rosy tint) ; mantle pearl-grey ; tips of the long inner secondaries a shade paler, but no alar bar; outer primary chiefly white, with some black on the outer web and more on the. Larus hidler. margin of the inner web ; 2nd and 3rd (juills similar, but with black sublcrniinal bars {sec nd alove) ; 4th quill with a little grey on the inner web ; 5th and 6th grey on both webs, all with subtcrminal.
