An adjustablegrate is provided so as toregulate the flow of metalfrom the hopper. The lengthof the swing of the is adjustable. Current is supplied to theelectro-magnets within thedrum through collector ringsand carbon brushes. Theflanges at the edges of thedrum keep the metal on thesurface. The mstal is stirredto aid in separation by two wires supported from the frame and extend-ing across in front of the cylindrical surface. The brush wheel whichremoves the iron from the cylinder has radial strips of sole leather securedbetween wooden blocks.
