Koala (Phascolarctos cinereus) The koala is an arboreal (tree-living) marsupial. It is relatively sedentary and sleeps for up to 18 hours a day. This is due to its poor diet, which consists mainly of the leaves from a few species of eucalyptus trees. The koala inhabits the forests of Tasmania and eastern Australia, living alone or in small groups. Photographed in Australia.
