Therewere about 14,000 cases on board, and nearly half ofthese were destroyed by fire in the fore part of theship ; the coal in the bunkers having also been onfire, the damage to the ship, as well as to the cargo,was very heavy. To facilitate the necessary repairsthe Netherton was towed to Singapore. The photo-graphs we reproduce are of great interest, showingthe condition of the fore part of the ship after thefire, and the buckling effect of the heat. Thephotographs are by Mr. S.
