Journal. shall lx> glad if those interested, after givingcareful attention to-this report will forward anycomments as soon as possible to the Secretary of theBritish Chemical Plant Manufacturers Association,166, Piccadilly, W. 1, so that they may have con-sideration before final adoption of the proposals. The Sub-Committee has now completed ite con-sideration of the replies to the i/irsl minimi i issuedwith reference to the original proposals, of whichparticulars were given in mis Journal ( Nov. 15,401 n). These proposals found a very large measureof acceptance, but eomc desire was shown for a48-inch plate, and the Committee now put- forwardsuggestions concerning tli lier with t> minor modifications of detail in the original proposals are a- Follows: — (a) It has been decided to recommend a recessedplate of the 48-in. size with optional Btrengthening-lioss,* as indicated in the accompanying drawing(Sketch No. 1). Section through feed at A snuute. -V ° V yv-K1.^ Vjt \ /jcjyc FOR i cue/ Recessed-Plate No. 1. (b) Only one type of 48-in. plate and frame is sub-mitted, in view of the more restricted range ofapplication of this size. After careful considerationof the conditions to be met in the case of those userswho asked for such plates and frames, and also ofthe probable uses for which they may morecommonly be required, it has been decided to adopta top-feed in an external lug, to be suitable eitherfor cloth sleeves or rubber-joint rings. In regardto the washing arrangements, the view is advancedthat having regard to the great capacity of thispress, it becomes economical to have a separatewash- and air-outlet to each chamber. This in-volves the use of an upper trough, but permits thefullest control of washing efficiency. It will bepossible to use these wash-outlets and air-cocks asadditional filtrate-outlets. The design proposed isshown in Sketch No. 2. (c) It is proposed to fix dimensions for triangularru
