A com-pany of Jerseymen from Somerset County in thislegion was commanded by Ford Morris. In the organization of the First Regiment ofCavalry Benjamin Williamson was major com-manding. The several troops of light dragoonsincluded companies from Essex, Middlesex, Som-erset, and Monmouth Counties. Of the Second Cavalry Regiment William Led-del was major. This regiment was divided intotwo squadrons. There were light dragoons fromMorris County, with troops from Bergen, Morris, 440 NEW JERSEY AS A OOL. JOSEPH BLOUMrreLD. Sussex, Somerset, Monmouth, Middlesex, andHunterdon Counties. The infantry brigade was under the commandof Brigadier-General Joseph Bloomfleld, to whichwas attached the artillery battalion under Cap-tain Eli Elmer commanding. Two companies ofartillery composed this battalion, one being re-cruited from Cumberland County, the other fromMorris, Essex, and Bergen Counties. The lieu-tenant-colonel of the First Regiment was Frank-lin Davenport. Here were to be found companiesfrom the Counties of Burlington, Cumberland,Salem, Essex, and probably, in part, from CapeMay. The Second Regiment had for its lieutenant-colonel Amos Stark. There were companies fromEssex, Bergen, Morris, and Sussex. The lieuten-ant-colonel of the Third Regiment was JonathanForman. To this regiment Middlesex, Somerset,Hunterdon, Sussex, and Monmouth Counties sentcompanies. William Crane was lieutenant-colonel of theFourth Regimen
