The Rizzoli Orthopaedic Institute (Istituto Ortopedico Rizzoli) is located on the outskirts of Bologna on a small hill of San Michele in Bosco district in the Emilia-Romagna region of northern Italy. The hospital was founded by the famous Bolognese surgeon, Francesco Rizzoli and opened in 1896. It soon gained a reputation and treatment to patients becoming one of the best orthopaedic hospitals in the world, also for its size, facilities, organisation, research and teaching.
