Lord Kelvin Statue in Botanic Gardens Belfast


Lord Kelvin was born as William Thomson in Belfast in 1824. He made many contributions to science. They include contributions to thermodynamics, electromagnetic theory, communication (first transatlantic cable link) and contact potentials (phew!!). He was knighted in 1866 and received the title Baron Kelvin of Largs in 1892. The statue is at the Stranmillis Road entrance to the Botanic Gardens.
