His chief success with theBoston Company has been in Boitos Mefisto-fele, in which he took the title role. Sibiriakoff, a Russian, has impressive, butnot ponderous or sluggish bulk, and orders hisposes and movements skilfully. His voice is arich, smooth, flexible bass, skilfully directed, capable of emotional and characterizing sig-nificance, and free from clouding infirmities anderrors of what the singing teachers call method. His tones give sensuous pleasure,he knows how to sing. As yet he has not muchfinesse, and he is no subtle penetrator of oper-atic character and operatic music. Elizabeth Amsden is a native of East Boston, but during her school days her family moved toProvidence, R. I., where she finished her edu-cation at the Elmhurst School in 1892. At thistime her voice began to attract attention andshe entered the International School for singers. Photograph by J. She is tall and slender, with a fine figure, has dramatic ability andmagnetism, and is an unusually good linguist, speaking Italian, French and German, besideshaving a good knowledge of Russian.
