For a while it seemed as if the JablochkofT system might be the solution to the problem of the electric light. During the next few years its application expanded quite rapidly; in addition to its use in cities (figs. 91, 92) it was utilized to light the cabins of ships. But the sudden rise of this new device came to an almost equally as sudden halt as more economic means of subdividing the electric light were developed. 406 BULLETIN 228: CONTRIBUTIONS FROM THE MUSEUM OF HISTORY AND TECHNOLOGY.
