Last week flowers of all kinds con- tinued to pile up and the regular trade could not possibly use all of them. As a result, only the best of the stock was sold by the florists and the remainder sacrificed to the street fakers, who had the time of their lives. It was a shame to see some of the stock sold on the streets, but what could the wholesalers do? Of course, the retailers complained and explained that it would be better for the business if the surplus were thrown away, but the wholesaler thought "a bird in the hand was worth two in the bush" and took what he could get for the surplus. The wholesale houses were plenti- fully supplied with good roses, carna- tions and mums in wide variety. Paper Whites, violets, mignonette, snap- dragons and yellow daisies were plenti- ful and gave everybody a lovely time looking for customers. The retailers had a splendid week. Trade was good, considering that it was election week; it was more than they expected. There is some anxiety over the non- arrival of azaleas and some in the trado have concluded that there will not bo any this year. Some fine plants of lilacs have been on the road so long that perhaps they will not be worth forcing. Florists' Club Meeting. There was a good attendance at the November 7 meeting of the Florists' Club, which was devoted to exhibits and discussions of the too plentiful mum. Schenley park had a couple of vases containing the largest and finest mums ever shown at a meeting, and someone said that the flowers were grown by a park employee who knew little about flowers, but had brains enough to do as he was told. Other exhibitors were M. Curran, H. J. Heinz and C. Goodwin & Sons. The committee
