Mimetite mineral. Mimetite is a lead-arsenide chloride (Pb5.(AsO4)), a mineral of secondary origin in lead bearing deposits. Its different forms include prismatic or acicular crystals, but also botryoidal or reniform habitats. The colour is yellow-brown-orange, sometimes colourless. Its name derives from the fact that it resembles pyromorphite, with which it forms a mineral series. The crystal habitat in this sample is a combination of botryoidal and prismatic. Mimetite is often associated with other lead and arsenic minerals, like the dark galena interspersed in this specimen. This sample, from Cumberland, UK, is 16 centimetres across.
