Bacteria cultures in MacConkey agar. Selection of Petri dishes with various types of gram-negative bacillus (rod-shaped) bacteria, mostly Escherichia coli (E. coli) and Klebsiella sp., cultured in MacConkey agar growth medium. MacConkey agar is a selective and differential culture medium for bacteria. It is designed to selectively isolate Gram-negative enteric (intestinal) bacilli and differentiate them based on lactose fermentation.
