Therearc many charming walks in Dedham, through the shaded streetsand along the rivers and canal. Dedham Village contains the town and county buildings anda number of interesting old mansion-houses. The visitor will besure to feel an interest in Memorial Hall, built as a memorialto the townsmen who fell in the Civil War; the artistic building. 164 GUIDE TO BOSTON. of the Dedham Historical Society, with its library of historicalworks and manuscripts, a collection of antiquities and portraitsof local celebrities; the Ames house, built in 1772; the Dexterhouse, built about 1762, and, most interesting of all, the Fair-banks house, built in 1650, and now in charge of the Daughtersof the Revolution. VII. THROUGH QUINCY TO THE SOUTH SHORE. The South Shore resorts. Downers Landing. Hingham andNantasket, may be reached by trolley via Quincy, though aquicker, and, in fair weather, a pleasanter way of reaching themis by steamer. (See The Harbor and Beaches.)
