Boiled, cooked cockles that have been gathered by a forager at low tide by hand. They have been cleaned, removed from their shells and trimmed and are ready for a recipe with chorizo sausage. The cockles appeared to match the description for the Rough Cockle, Acanthocardia tuberculata, although the rough cockle is very similar in appearance to both the spiny and prickly cockle. The spiny and the prickly cockles live in the sub-littoral zone while the rough cockle can be found in the littoral zone where this one was gathered, suggesting identification is correct. However, this conclusion should be treated with caution. They are very tough when cooked. Dorset England UK GB
