The complication is usually unfavor-able, as septicemia and death frequently result. Differential Diagnosis. The diseases most likely to beconfounded with diphtheria are acute tonsillitis, strepto-coccus sore throat, mucous patches of secondary syph-ilis, and mycosis of the pharynx.
