Night beach view, with reflections, north to Central Pier Big Wheel, Sky Flyer Ride, Blackpool Tower, Blackpool Illuminations

The Central Pier dates to 1864, the year after the more genteel North Pier. In 1990 the pier was strengthened, at a cost of £75,000, to take the weight of the 32 metres (108 feet) tall 'Big Wheel', here illuminated with red and orange lights. The 'Sky Flyer', here illuminated green and red, is a recent flying machine amusement ride near the pier's entrance (right background). Blackpool Tower, opened in 1894, has computer-controlled changing light, here illuminated red and green. The Tower in 2013, 2014 and 2015 was undergoing repairs. Colourful 'Scrolls Illuminations' cross the Central Promenade, right background. A view north from the Central Sands, with Blackpool Tower and Central Pier 'Big Wheel' reflections.
