D.,Lecturer on Diseases of the Rectum in the Medical Department of the Cnivereity of Buffalo. I HAVE accepted the courteous invitation of our presiding officer toread a short paper tonight, not because I hope to gay much thatwill prove of very great interest to you, but for the reason that, asa member of this association, I feel that the presentation of a paperof some sort occasionally is a duty which we owe to our fellow-members and to the association ; and although we may not offeranything new or original, we should, at least, be willing to contri-bute our mite toward the discharge of our duty, even if our contri-bution be only a review of some subject intended merely to elicitdiscussion by the members of our association.
