It is situated in the parish of Worfield, andhundred of Brimstrey. The house was built by that eminent architect the late Mr. FrancisSmith, of Warwick, for Henry Davenport, Esq. about the year 1727. It is seated upon aneminence, with a spacious lawn in front, and commanding a pleasing view of the adjoiningcountry. The interior is ornamented with various rich and handsome articles of EastIndia furniture, brought over by Henry Davenport on his return from the East Indies, who,whilst there, married Mary Lucy, daughter of Daniel Charolin, Esq., Governor of Madras,by whom he had Sherington Davenport, Esq. who succeeded to the family mansion andestates.
