I think I wakened this morning in theexpectancy of at least hearing the distant roarof these mighty Falls, as I knew that thestation at which we had come to anchor wasbarely a mile distant from them, but all wasquiet and dusty as usual, which at the timeI thought distinctly strange, particularly aswe knew, on excellent authority, that withthe river in flood, as it was at this date, thespray was rising on a still day to a height of3,000 feet, and could sometimes be seen at adistance of forty miles.
