During the Externship Period, the studentparticipates in patient care activities at selectedHarvard-affiliated institutions listed below: General Dentistry Veterans Administration Medical Centers/Hospitals: 12 weeks Pediatric Dentistry Childrens Hospital Medical Center: 4 weeks Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery Massachusetts General Hospital: 4 weeks Advanced Restorative Dentistry Harvard School of Dental Medicine: 4 weeks. II 13 Ample opportunity thus exists during Year IVfor students to reinforce their skills in generaldentistry. Students also return to the Schoolof Dental Medicine one day per week for aComprehensive Care Clinic where they areable to continue to treat and follow theirHSDM patients, and take mandatory coursesin Practice Management, Advanced Occlu-sion, and Case Presentation. The Elective Period during the fourth yearalso consists of approximately two to threemonths of elective courses or programs forstudents who have completed all clinical anddidactic requirements.
